Restoring traditional details and adding personal touches transform buildings. 
It already had the shape and proportions of a Victorian house, but very few of the embellishments.The shingle siding and roofing were all ready to be replaced and the owners were ready to make the investment to add the charm that this house deserves. Traditional Victorian details were added with a contemporary interpretation of detail from the simple rake of the gable roof to the custom brackets holding up the new front entry canopy. Practical decisions such as making the back of the house less ornamental saved some money without compromising the design. And some extra amenities like a covered space for bicycles add the finishing touches.

Restoring some of the traditional details and adding classic touches transformed this into an eye-catching cottage. The front porch was reconfigured to provide a welcoming, covered entry and the rear porch was rebuilt and enlarged to provide ample, screened-in dining space in a pleasant backyard along with a roof deck for the principal bedroom. A clever use of space allowed us to insert a powder room directly off the door to the driveway.
In addition to creating a proper en suite principal bedroom and a shared bathroom for the two other bedrooms, we took advantage of the attic space by vaulting the ceiling over the principal bedroom. And despite the high water.
