Meet the Team
Damon Sidel, Owner, Principal Architect
Damon founded Mix Design in 2017, bringing over two decades of architectural experience to the firm. His career began at a small, local firm where he honed his craft through thoughtful, hands-on design. This foundation grounded him throughout his studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), where he earned his Master of Architecture with honors.
Damon’s pursuit of design excellence grew at Safdie Architects, working directly with Moshe Safdie and other talented staff, contributing to world-renowned projects such as The Jewel at Changi Airport and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore; Altair in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Serena del Mar Hospital in Colombia. His work on these iconic, international projects refined his ability to leverage cutting-edge technology to address complex design challenges, often leading him to oversee critical and intricate components of these large-scale endeavors.
What sets Damon apart is his ability to blend analytical rigor with creative synthesis. He excels at breaking down complex problems into manageable parts and then recombining solutions into a cohesive whole. His broad range of experience, spanning various sectors, regions, and design challenges, shapes his philosophy and approach to architecture. This diverse background informs his process, shaping the way he views the profession and drives his design practice. Damon’s work is a reflection of his belief in creating design solutions that are as thoughtful and varied as the challenges they solve.
Gregory Mathieu, Architect
Gregory is an architect and designer with a passion for crafting bespoke residential and commercial environments. His work spans multiple disciplines, including architecture, interiors, graphics, and exhibitions, allowing him to approach each project with a multidisciplinary perspective. Gregory excels in working across scales and media to provide innovative, tailored solutions for every design challenge.
With nearly a decade of professional experience, Gregory graduated from Tulane University in 2014 with a Master of Architecture, which he supplemented with a Master of Design at RISD, focusing on exhibition and narrative environments, further enriching his creative approach. Deeply valuing the teaching he did at RISD, he is finding ways to incorporate teaching alongside his practice.
Gregory joined Mix in 2020 where he works closely with clients to bring their dream visions to life. He believes deeply in the transformative power of design to shape experiences and environments, and approaches each project with a combination of professionalism and genuine passion. Outside of his work, Gregory enjoys exploring the outdoors and playing piano while savoring a good cup of coffee.
I own and run a small design-build company and with my own architectural background, I often don't need an Architect. Following a project where we needed one, I look to work with Damon any chance I get. I find the collaboration with Damon results in both the design and construction phases of our projects being so much better.
